Can You Say Random??

Let's start with the Philly Cheesesteak Thickburger from Hardee's...

It's a new sandwich just launched this week by Hardee's. I like to call it "Heart attack on a bun." This thing is layered with meat upon layers of meat. It has a whopping 930 calories, 63 grams of fat, and 24 grams of saturated fat...according to the above-linked article, this is "a full day's worth of the recommended amount of fat, and almost half the recommended 2,000 calories." YIKES.

Okay, it's time for some "Mentalrobics"....

I'm pretty much a geek when it comes to things like this...I find the brain very interesting, along with much of what I learned in the 3 Psychology courses I took in college.

I found a site called Braingle, where you can test your short-term memory (and also find many different types of brain teasers and puzzles). Go here to take the test...Basically, it tests your ability to hold pieces of information for short periods of time--testing you using either numbers or letters (you can choose). I was able to remember an average of 8-9 numbers at a time. You can read more about the hippocampus and its relation to short-term memory here. For more general info about memory, see this page.

Now it's time to fight for the end of women's suffrage!...

Well, so some girls think. It's such a shame...obviously these girls were set up, but still...suffrage doesn't mean what they think it means. It's actually a good thing!...the right to vote!! Yes, the word is very deceiving. So, in the following video, you will see a jokester who goes around a school campus getting female students to sign a petition to end women's suffrage. It's very much like what Leno does to get people to answer history questions on camera and then it ends up making them look stupid because they don't know the correct answer.

I wonder how many of these girls, afterwards, realized what they had done and then felt the need to smack themselves upside the head? Here's a question though...what exactly did the video-makers mean at the end of the video where they said "We rest our case." What exactly were they resting their case about? About suffrage being a misleading word?...uh, probably not. Hopefully they weren't trying to portray girls as having a lack of intelligence. Honestly, I'd be curious to see how many male students would make the same mistake. Obviously, what made it funny was the fact that females, themselves, were signing a petition to end their own right to vote...however, I just don't get the "We rest our case" part...any thoughts?

Thus ends the randomness of this post...Have a great weekend!

Richard Ashcroft

Yeah, you know who he is. He's the former lead singer of The Verve. Does "Bittersweet Symphony" ring a bell? That was their big hit back in the mid-to-late 90s (they've since disbanded...yes, that's a word, Kel). I'll always remember that song from being in the movie, Cruel Intentions.

So, what about Richard Ashcroft? Well, he was the support act for Coldplay in Philly last week (see my previous post) and, at the concert, I got hooked on the song "Break the Night With Colour" from his new album, Keys to the World. I can't say I like all his music, but this one really struck me when hearing it live. He definitely has a Lennon-esque quality to his voice, which is actually quite powerful live.

You can listen to the entire track "Break the Night With Colour" on his website, under Media - Music Streams. Also, you can watch the video, under Video Streams.

Coldplay in Philly

Last night was a great night!...yep, I saw Coldplay! It started out as a Christmas present for my sister, Kelli. She absolutely loves them, so I surprised her with a ticket for Christmas. Believe it or not, at the time, she didn't even know they were coming to Philly in April! I guess I'll be her favorite sister until she gets mad at me again for something...

Anyway, since I had bought four tickets, of course I wanted to go too....and Kelli brought a friend, and then our Dad also went. He originally wasn't going to be able to go, but was able to switch around his work schedule at the last minute. Our seats were pretty good...nosebleeds--yes, but we were overlooking the stage from the right side. So, we really did have a great view. The best part of the whole thing though was seeing how excited Kelli was to be there. At 17, she hasn't really been to a true rock concert before...so, the fact that it was Coldplay made it even better. It had me thinking back to my first Pearl Jam concert in 1998; I wonder if I was like Kelli too. The great thing about Pearl Jam though is that no matter how many times I see them, the excitement never fades for me, and that's how I imagine it will always be for Kelli with Coldplay.

I had to laugh though because Kelli and her friend, Hannah, kept holding up their cell phones during certain songs...when I asked them what they were doing, they said they were calling each other and leaving the songs on the voicemail. How come I had never thought of that before?

The band sounded great and even sang "Ring of Fire," dedicated to Johnny Cash. A bonus for me was their intro and outtro music...both were Beatles songs. They walked on the stage to "Tomorrow Never Knows" from the album
Revolver. They exited to "Good Night" from The White Album. All in all...it was very fun! I was glad to be there with my sis, a concert newbie. Now, I just need to get her to a Pearl Jam concert! Last night's setlist:
  1. Square One
  2. Politik
  3. Yellow
  4. Speed of Sound
  5. What If
  6. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face
  7. Don't Panic
  8. White Shadows
  9. The Scientist
  10. 'Til Kingdom Come
  11. Ring of Fire
  12. Trouble
  13. Clocks
  14. Talk
  15. Swallowed in the Sea
  16. In My Place
  17. Fix You
Here are some things I found online from the concert last night:

Flash Scare Compilation

Have you ever been sent a supposed flash game that asked you to concentrate really hard to achieve something? Most of the time these games end up with something scary popping up and screaming in your face when you least expect it. Now imagine what you might look like if someone took video of your reaction when you saw it. Check out these poor people...it is hard not to laugh even though most of us probably empathize with them. My personal favorite is the guy towards the end of the video labeled as "Absolute Amateur."
